How to Play Brownian

Master the art of particle collision physics

Game Objective

Your goal in Brownian is simple: change all the colored particles to a single target color before time runs out. You achieve this by impacting your steel ball into the right particle field, where elastic collisions transfer energy and change particle colors upon contact.

Quick Start: Wait for the right moment to release your steel ball. Hit particles to change their colors. Match all colors to win!

Understanding the Game Elements

The Steel Ball

Your primary tool is a silver steel ball that you control. It has significantly more mass than the colored particles, which means:

Colored Particles

The floating particles are the core of each puzzle. Key characteristics:

The Test Tube Environment

The playing field is a vertical test tube shape, designed to create interesting bounce physics:

Gameplay Mechanics

Stopping the steel ball

When you pause the steel ball, time will slow down, and it will decelerate of a factor given by difficulty (4x easy, 3x medium, 2x hard). While paused

Trajectory Prediction

When you pause the steel ball, you'll see a dotted trajectory line showing where your ball will travel. This prediction accounts for:

Color Changing System

Each collision with a particle advances its color through a predetermined sequence. In most levels:

  1. Start color (e.g., Blue)
  2. Intermediate colors (if any)
  3. Target color (e.g., Green)

Plan your shots to hit particles the right number of times to reach the target color.

Hit Stars are computed given the MINIMAL amount of hits you have to each to bring all particles on the same color. Minimal amount= three stars , less or equal than the double of the minimal amount = two stars. More that that one star

Time Stars are computed given the residual time. On easy you got five seconds per particle, on medium four, on hard three. Complete in the first third of the time and you got three stars on the second third two, otherwise three

Time pauses when you pause the steel ball, of a factor according to your difficulty

Firework Celebrations

When you successfully match all particles of one color group, a firework sequence celebrates your achievement. You can disable them in settings if you don't feel like celebrating :)

Star Rating System

Each level awards stars based on how quickly you complete it:

  • 3 Stars: Complete within 50% of the time limit (exceptional!)
  • 2 Stars: Complete within 75% of the time limit (great job!)
  • 1 Star: Complete before time runs out (level passed)

Challenge yourself to earn 3 stars on every level!

Strategies for Success

1. Plan Your Angles

Before launching, visualize how the ball will bounce. Wall bounces can help you reach particles in tricky positions. Think of it like a game of billiards, but with gravity.

2. Use Gravity to Your Advantage

The steel ball falls as it travels. Aim slightly higher than your target to account for the arc. For distant particles, use a stronger launch to minimize gravity's effect.

3. Target Clusters

When particles are grouped together, a well-placed shot can hit multiple particles in sequence. Look for opportunities to maximize each shot's effectiveness.

4. Watch the Brownian Motion

Particles move randomly. If a particle is moving toward your trajectory, it might be easier to hit. If it's moving away, you might need to lead your shot or wait for better positioning.

5. Mind the Bounce Count

Remember that each hit advances the color. Don't hit a particle too many times or you might cycle past the target color and need to hit it again to cycle back.

Advanced Techniques

Wall Bouncing

Master the art of using walls to reach difficult particles. The angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection, just like light bouncing off a mirror. Practice bank shots to access particles hiding behind others.

Chain Reactions

In the tight confines of the test tube, your steel ball can hit multiple particles before losing momentum. Plan shots that maximize contact with multiple targets, especially when they share the same color state.

Timing Your Shots

While the ball is in motion, you cannot launch another. Use this time to observe particle movement and plan your next shot. Strategic patience often leads to faster completion times than rapid, unplanned shots.

Remember: The auto-bump feature will give your ball a boost if it settles at the bottom. This isn't a failure; it's a game mechanic that keeps the action going. Use the upward momentum to set up your next strategic shot.

Unlockable Music

Brownian features 15 themed music tracks that unlock as you progress through the game. Keep playing to discover new soundtracks!

How to Unlock New Tracks

  • Trophy Levels: In the level selection screen, levels marked with a trophy icon unlock new music when completed
  • Unlock Schedule: New tracks unlock every 7 levels (Level 7, 14, 21, 28, and so on)
  • 15 Tracks Total: Complete all milestone levels to unlock the full soundtrack
Tip: Once you've unlocked new tracks, you can select your favorite music in the Settings menu. Open Settings from the main menu and choose from all your unlocked tracks!
